It requires knowledge, wisdom, love, patience, and a multitude of other gifts to achieve this daunting task. As we have done consistently over the span of the ages, we will do so again and continue to do so. It is our calling,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], our purpose, our role.

You have an argument with your partner, a parent, one of your children, a sibling, friend or work colleague. You are very angry and find yourself heading towards the kitchen. You reach for the cupboard where you store your hoard of “forbidden” foods. You open up the biscuits. And so a familiar pattern begins to repeat itself. For some, anger and eating are inextricably linked. If we have been brought up in an environment where anger is not expressed, then the chances are that it will be difficult for us to express our anger, so we will implode, turn the anger in on ourselves. However if the preferred style for expressing anger for those around us when we were younger was to explode, the “explosion” can trigger anxiety, and that in turn can lead to a episode of emotional overeating.
So what could we do to address anger and overeating? We could start by stopping and asking ourselves, “How do I feel right now with this situation?” Many of us never give ourselves the time to ask ourselves this question, to take a deep breath and make a rational decision of what to do next – what to do next that will be for my higher good, and actually, everyone else. Follow that up with and “What do I need right now?” we may begin to unravel our relationship with anger, and as a result food.
Anger is undoubtedly one of the main causes of emotional overeating. So if as in the example above, you stifle your anger by eating “comfort” food, you may inadvertently see the scales begin to go up. I am always intrigued by the expression “comfort” food which ultimately seem to cause so much discomfort with so many of the clients that I meet. The food, whatever it may be, can be very seductive, helping us to escape from the feelings of fear, hurt or powerlessness that may be present but ultimately just keeping those emotions down. And of course society doesn’t always encourage us to express our anger. It must be one of the greatest misunderstood emotions of all times. And the more we eat the more the anger can build. The more we try to ignore it or pretend that it isn’t there,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the more damaging it can be. Because, whether we face it or not, it is there, and if it is not doing its damage externally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], it will definitely be doing it internally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], either physically or psychologically, or both.
To begin to address our anger is to begin an exciting journey of self discovery. To acknowledge your anger in the first place is the first step. Eating will only serve to keep us in a vicious circle.
As an Anger and Stress Management Consultant, I am regularly working with individuals whose relationship with anger is a challenging one. Link that with emotional overeating and you have a potentially highly destructive combination. Overeating when angry just serves to anesthetise our feelings, and ultimately can be personally very damaging.

We could also begin to identify for ourselves whether our eating is because we are hungry,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or has an emotional component. If we are hungry, the message will come from our stomach. It may be rumbling or our energy may be depleted. If it is emotional the message will come from our head. If we are hungry, it is probably because we haven’t eaten for several hours, but we can delay it also if we need too. If it is emotional, it will develop suddenly and no amount of food will be enough; we may have just eaten a big meal but still tuck into maybe a particular type of food that we eat when feeling emotional. If we are hungry we will have a feeling of satisfaction after a meal. If it is emotional we will probably continue to eat even though we feel full and then feel disgust and shame. Our shame is also highlighted because much of this eating is done in private, when the family or flatmates have gone to bed.
So why do we get angry? There are four main sources that trigger our anger:
The loss of a personal goal, for example when we lose a job,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], miss a train or arrive late for a meeting, the invasion of a personal boundary, when someone enters without permission or touches us when we have not given then permission, self defence anger, when we feel the need to defend ourselves for whatever reason,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and finally when someone mirrors something that we don’t like or feel comfortable about ourselves.
Our anger is linked to our needs. We will get angry if our needs are not met. Our anger will be triggered if we think we are not being heard, not being acknowledged or understood. We have a need for community and friendship, so if we are feeling isolated and alone we may take solace in food. It can become a friend,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who is always there and never lets us down. But then of course as we see the scales go up we feel angry, hopeless and defeated, and can turn the anger on ourselves.

"And the job goes to... Mark and Denise!"
To remind myself to be positive, I wore my favourite necklace every day (and to the final). It's a silver disk with the word Yes on one side, and No on the other. Every day I looked at that necklace on the Yes side and said to myself "Yes,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I'm ready".
Let me share the most serious and practical action we took, that I'll guess none of the other contestants were brave (or arrogant) enough to do. Before we even got into the Top 10, we started the process to rent out our London apartment. Ten days wouldn't be enough to find tenants and if (when) we won, it would be too stressful with everything else to do.
I'm an excellent networker, so I already had a good sized social media network by actively connecting with like minded people and building relationships with them. I was very active about commenting and encouraging other people. This seems like a huge investment in time, but really it was a matter of checking my accounts for a couple of minutes every hour.
We did as many practical things as possible to tell the Universe we were ready. There was a very short amount of time between the final and the first trip, so we started preparing "just in case" we won. We wanted to show the Universe that we were ready.
Even if we didn't win the competition, we had plenty to appreciate in our lives. As went went to bed each night, we both had to say five things we were grateful for,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], even if we didn't feel like it.
Here are just four of the many Law of Attraction techniques I used to win the Ultimate Job competition. They are really easy and practical things that you can do for your own audacious goal.

Was there risk involved in going ahead like that? No - if we didn't win, we were fully prepared to move if necessary or we could tell the potential tenants that circumstances had changed. We were mentally and emotionally ready to pack up our lives and we did the action to prove it.
The Universe loves an "attitude of gratitude" because positivity attracts even more positivity (and the opposite is true too, so watch your negative thoughts). Appreciation for where you are opens up even more opportunity.

I never entertained the thought that we wouldn't win. I visualised the moment when they would call our names. "Mark and Denise!",[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], I would repeat to myself all throughout the day. It spurred me on to do actions that scared me, like cold-calling reporters to drum up publicity to impress the judges.
I wore that necklace every day at the final weekend,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], in our interview with the judges and up on stage when they called our name.

Some people wonder why exercises are necessary. After all, your face is always in motion—whether you are talking, laughing, eating,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], or crying. It gets a workout every day. You do use some of your facial muscles in your day-to-day life, but probably not all of them. The muscles of the human body are highly specific, and those of the face are no exception. For maximum benefit, each muscle must be exercised individually.

When muscles lose their tone,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], they become soft and flaccid and hang loosely from the bone. Total Temple Toner
This is a marvelous exercise that will really give you a workout. Scalp Lift
When we're tired, our shoulders tend to droop and our bodies to sag. Have you ever caught yourself and used your energy to pull yourself up, correct your posture, and stand up straight? Try the same idea on your face. When we're tired or depressed, our facial muscles tend to sag too. Aging has a similar effect. For an instant lift, try the following:
Standing in front of a mirror to be sure that your form is correct,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], open your eyes wide,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], lift your eyebrows,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and pull back your forehead and scalp as far as you can. This is a strenuous contraction, so don't overdo it. After you have been exercising for a number of weeks and it no longer feels stressful, increase the number of repetitions gradually.
Take a good look at your face in the mirror. Learn to see your assets as well as your problem spots. Experiment with different expressions. Observe the change when you tighten your scalp, raise your eyebrows, move your jaw. Become aware of your facial carriage. Confidence and poise are important components of beauty. Tighten your scalp as much as you can by pulling it both backward and to the sides,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych]. Now press your tongue flat up against the roof of your mouth. Concentrate on pushing the middle and back of your tongue against the hard palate. Hold for a count of 3; release. Repeat 2 more times.
To tone the muscles, you must practice the exercises as described for 10 to 15 minutes at least 3 or 4 days a week. To develop the muscles,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], you should exercise every day, with increasing repetitions. For most purposes, a gradual increase to 6 or 7 repetitions will be sufficient. This is the best exercise of all, and it has nothing to do with muscle development directly. Now that you've been working with your face, you should feel a much greater sense of mobility and control. This will increase dramatically as you exercise regularly over a period of months. Use it to your advantage.

Then there are others who only after years of experiences, contemplations, trials, tribulations and errors have found theirs. Some stumbled upon it by accident. Others,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], their friends and family tell them of it or practice heavily on an interest until it became their life's work. Then there are the vast others who have yet to uncover their gifts and interests and develop them into careers that will ultimately add to their lives in ways they can only comprehend.
I've uncovered my interest while watching an old comedy drama called Soap where Billy Crystal played a member of the family. In one of the episodes, a fellow cast member,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], who was experiencing a relationship problem confided in him. He obliged by giving his advice. Now I can't exactly remember what advice he gave, but whatever he said, he said it so eloquently and so beautifully touching that in the end when asked where did he "comes up with these things" he just said "I don't know. Words just come out of my mouth like fruit falling from a tree." I said "Wow! I want to be able to do that. I want to help others just through the beauty of my words, and expression of my thoughts." So while my friends and family wanted to be stock brokers, doctors, rock stars, business men, etc. I wanted to be the wise sage, the old man on the mountain that people come to for advice. But I didn't know how to make a living doing that. Back then Anthony Robbins didn't exist. I never heard of self-help or self-development. So I tabled the desire and became just another hard working self-employed, loyal husband, good friend, etc. not fully expressing my true calling.
I believe everybody has a reason for being. We are all born with a purpose, a set of skills, a bevy of abilities, and a talent or two. Our life should be in the uncovering,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], identifying and expressing these gifts to benefit humanity. For those who have been fortunate enough to uncover it early in their lives they have gone on to develop those gifts into careers and thus prosper. They recognized them early on and utilized those talents, gifts and abilities to provide them with a worthwhile career whether it is through their vocal skills, artistic abilities, capacity to decipher complex numbers, turn ideas into money making enterprises, motivate people, or run the 100 meter dash in 6 seconds.
God gave us the gift of life. How we choose to live it is our gift to him.
It wasn't until the last ten or so years of my life that I recognized how much I enjoyed talking,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], inspiring and motivating people to live amazing lives. Once you decide what your purpose in life is, then start to organize all your activities around accomplishing that purpose. This purpose will act as your guide and like a compass point you, your goals, and your actions into the right direction.

I know that in order for me to live to my fullest potential I need to work on it everyday!

It's sad to say, but the idea of "reliable health information" is fast turning into an oxymoron, at least in the public's eye. Why? Because it seems everywhere you turn researchers and policymakers are being paid off, products are being peddled or seemingly "independent" parties turn out to be investing in, or working for,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], the very entity they're trying to promote.
This may explain why seemingly big news events seem to evaporate into thin air. Just last month, for instance, a cow with mad cow disease was found in Alabama,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], making it the third discovered in the United States. The incident was being "investigated."
Not to be outdone, the food industry has also done its share of lobbying,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], to the tune of many millions. Can you,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then, with any degree of certainty, trust that the source of governmental agencies' information is unbiased, and looking out for the public's interest? Or, is it trying to please its drug-toting, junk-food peddling "sponsors"?
Even the U.S. Department of Agriculture, in its instructions for evaluating reliable health information on the Internet,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], says you should pay close attention to where the information on the site comes from.
Other items, like the growing debate surrounding genetically modified foods or the passing of the Cheeseburger Bill also receive little airtime on mainstream media outlets, at best.
You simply must question every study, every Web site,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], every researcher that you see, read or hear, and confirm that they, or it,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is not biased. Even the nightly news coverage of health topics is questionable, as the parent network is probably receiving BIG advertising bucks from the pharmaceutical companies.
However, more potentially damaging than hearing two sides of an issue is hearing only one biased side. When you think about health information reliability,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], more and more often it is this bias that may be tainting seemingly legit sources - often frighteningly so.
