The money will help with medical expenses that aren covered by insurance, as well as travel and meals, special needs and the incidentals that go along with the disease, said Swackhamer.
Rayanna family has deep roots in Hunterdon. Swackhamer retired from the township as construction code and Board of Health secretary. Uncle Jason Marrero is a township patrolman. Mom Jennifer, currently on family leave, is a social worker with Hunterdon Home Healthcare and brother Geordan is a student at Delaware Township School.
Rayanna was named for her grandfather, Raymond Miller, who was a volunteer assistant fire chief when he was killed battling a brush fire in Raritan Township in 1976.
Swackhamer says that Rayanna is the bravest little girl I know and I thank God daily for the gift of her. Diagnosed in July 2007 with leukemia, she underwent treatment for 27 months and was hospitalized several times.
